The Trial 1962
Never succumbs to the desire for symbolism. Instead, Perkins's Josef K. is entirely awash in the mire of guilt and shame that comes with the assumption that all that are accused must be guilty. His nervous, uptight energy empowers Perkins in what is his best role, and pushes every scene forward. The pacing is so swift that the audience is never quite sure whether this all takes place over a single day or a period of years, and by the end we feel as exhausted as K., welcoming the end, however bleak, just like him.

The Tempest 1979
A portrait of a society falling into disrepair, a world stolen from the Calibans, and a world returning to them.
