The Company You Keep 2013

★★★½

A cast that just keeps on giving.
(Also, Shia, come back to me. This is my favourite look on you.)

I was slightly disturbed by most of this. But, you know, I'm a red-blooded woman and Gosling etc. etc.

I am utterly, utterly bemused.
I refer you to my friend's review, which is far more comprehensive as to our joint thoughts.

What's Eating Gilbert Grape 1993

I shudder to imagine what the social justice crowd would do to Leo if this was made in 2013.

Also, why is everyone so assholic to Johnny Depp?! His sweet puppy dog eyes and chiselled cheekbones just want a rest, lads.

The Angel of Death wears really tacky wings, you guys.

Oblivion 2013

★★★

It's really very pretty. And I'm not just referring to the sudden appearance of dishevelled, gnarly, post-apocalyptic dreamboat Jaime Lannister, but visually it's gorgeous. The story is very interesting but completely underdeveloped. Probably would have done better as a TV show if they could get the budget. Or, as my Danish colleague suggested, by having Nikolaj play Tom's part instead.

CLIFF'S NOTES REVIEW:
"Ooh look, a Danish pastry in the middle of this banquet of 2001/Matrix nods with a garnish of oil painting visuals. I'll take that"
