Donnie Brasco 1997

Paul’s review:
Donnie Brasco is a top-notch crime thriller. The examination of the Brasco character and his growing attachment to life in the mafia is well worth a watch. Some of the supporting mob characters rely on a lot of mafioso cliches, but overall the intrigue of the undercover story never dwindles. Pacino and Depp give pitch-perfect performances and light up the screen together. Brasco's troubled relationship to his wife seems to add more conflict, but he never genuinely tries to patch things up or seems to care which felt a little odd for the character. Could have benefitted stylistically from having more of a gangster music soundtrack rather than a conventional Hollywood score, but that's just a nitpick. Highly recommended.
