I saw this originally a year or so after I'd seen the original. Seeing them back to back was an interesting experience, because I realized that while this movie loses some of the original jokes, and Matthew Broderick is not as entertaining as Gene Wilder... everything else about it I like the same or better. Mel Brooks is a fantastic song writer and the musical numbers in this are extremely fun, and that more than makes up for any of the good things that get lost in transition from the original. My thought rewatching this was, "Well, of course the original is better," but I turned out to like them about the same... this one even possibly a bit more. Mel Brooks should write more musicals. But no more movies.
