Recently, a friend emailed me to ask about what I thought were some of the best horror films since the year 2000. He already had a sizable list, and after I sent him the titles I came up with off the top of my head, I realized we had a total of nearly 90 films. This led me to think a little more on the subject and come up with a complete list of 100 films, although of course the list was well over that number. So I decided to start whittling and come up with a complete list of what I think are the best 100 horror films from the year 2000 to the present (well, through 2014).

I feel compelled to note that this is not an attempt to make an unassailable list of the best films as defined by some arbitrary set of objective standards. These are my personal favorites, from the pool of films I have seen. So obviously, the list will reflect my personal tastes and preferences. And just as obviously, this is my list as of this writing--as I get caught up on stuff I missed, it could easily change. But I felt like it was a useful exercise to get a list set down in concrete for reference now, for whatever reason. So here it is!
