    A heavy, meticulous and in certain respects epic procedural, an investigation into a single crime that becomes just as much about the policemen investigating it as it is about the perpetrator. As such, there are shades of films like Fincher's Zodiac or the cinema of Michael Mann, with an emphasis on the "procedure" or the "job".     One of the most pulverizing films ever made. A movie that is felt as much as it's seen. I'm still puzzled how it was not more well received upon release. Seeing it in a restored 35mm print in OAR (with Friedkin in attendance) was an amazing experience.

    A movie you'll either embrace, or reject, plain and simple. It's a bit easier to take if you're familiar with the source material (or the previous anime series adaptation). But just like the premise, the film is messy, unexplained, and oh so strange... all of which I liked.
