There is a definite advantage to viewers if you have previously read the novel(s), for which I did but can still be just as enjoyable if you have not. For a film based an a "young adult" novel, I have to admit it did not have the same uninteresting, typical aura of a Harry Potter or Twilight. It was a compelling take on a dsytopia, futuristic society. It was a visually appealing film that really brought the great source material to life and worth the hype.
