There's a bump in the night... but they're in space!?
Very much a product of its time I thought. From the gimmicky opening credits to the choice of cast, to the awkward use of CG, to the All Tan Spiky Everything school of spaceship architecture (hat tip to Clive Barker), to the gratuitously awkward jamming of the word "fuck" into bits of dialogue where it didn't really belong, to the inexplicable Prodigy song over the credits. (Seriously, who picked "Funky Shit"? That's a choice as inspired as it is bizarre.) Will always be a film of the 90s.
But it's not a bad movie by any account. Pretty formulaic as far as horror movies go, but quite rewatchable, and pretty fun to kick back and wisecrack about. Also, it has Sam Neill cracking up and turning into a colander-faced maniacal force of evil over the course of 90 minutes. You can't really go wrong, can you?
