Iron Man 3 2013
A perfectly formed superhero movie that doesn't spend all its time setting up sequels or mindlessly serving the fanboys. A fine swansong for Tony and Iron Man... if the studio will let it rest in peace.

Star Trek Into Darkness 2013
Star Trek Into Darkness is worthy follow up to 2009's impressive reboot. Performances are strong (notably Cumberbatch), the story is enjoyable, and the fan service is abundant. However, similarly to Star Trek, STID (as it's unfortunately acronymed) suffers from a break-neck speed pace, which stifles the enjoyment of its tantalisingly great set-ups. By the time the credits had rolled, my mind had only just comprehended what had happened in the 2nd act (presuming the film even has a 3rd act).…

For fans of ghost stories of ol' there's a lot to love here. For everyone else, it's a slow lumbering film with a disappointing climax. See The House of the Devil for better results.
