Le Samouraï 1967 ★★★★½

Watched May 01, 2012

Slick as fuck. Probably not the most elegant way to sum up a film but when you find yourself repeating a phrase over and over during the course of one it's probably worth mentioning. Le samourai is without a doubt one of the most stylish films I've ever seen. Everything oozes cool, from the iconic getup of hitman Jef Costello to the cars seen roaming 1960s Paris, to the direction and cinematography themselves.

The plot is a surprisingly simple tale of an assassin caught between a rock and a hard place, but the confidence of the performances and direction elevate it far beyond its simple narrative.

Hard to fault.
