Ugh. An interminable sloppy blowjob to instant film.

Subpar exploration revenge film. The violence isn't as shocking as it thinks it is, and the movie seems to think our lead is a tragic hero. If this is true, this movie is very misogynistic. If not, it's clumsy filmmaking. There are many a movie involving a psychopath who stalks women, but those movies always clearly think of the lead as a bad guy. (think Maniac. The original. Still haven't seen the remake so can't speak to that.) This movie either thinks he is a hero or is too poorly made to get its point across. Either way, it's bad.

An underrated Gialo from Lucio Fulci.

Whether or not you'll like Insidious Chapter 2 depends on whether you liked the second half of Insidious. A lot of people think the first film faltered when the ghost hunters showed up and Lin Shay puts on a gas mask. Insidious Chapter 2 goes all in on that storyline and runs with it. I liked all of the first one, so I liked this too. You may not. Depends on what you thought of the first.

a cautious recommend. A 3 1/2 movie that almost reaches 4 but falls short

So someone saw Paranormal Activity and through they had cracked the code: nothing happens for an hour and then the actual story kicks in. The problem is that's not really the code. PA slowly builds tension during the parts where nothing is supposedly happening. But, in those parts of this movie, nothing IS actually happening. The premise and last half hour almost save it, but a genuinely obnoxious lead and the dull first hour drag it down to meh town.

Just shy of brilliant. Slow burns require a high degree of skill, and Mike Flannigan displays it here. I recommend the fuck out of this movie.

I really wanted to like this. Early 80's, Michael Ironsides, what's not to like? Unfortunately, the whole affair falls oddly flat. I can't even exactly place why. It feels like a glossing over of important social issues and a potentially compelling story. Like a book report told by a bored 12 year old. I dunno. Meh all around.

A movie by Sean Stone, son to one Oliver Stone. You know how Oliver Stone movies are big and loud and still meh? There's an old saying about apples and trees.

The next time someone says that practical effects are always better than CG, I will force them to watch this movie. A CG monster would make this a tolerable weekend SyFy Channel movie. What we get instead is something that looks like a wetsuit with a Spawn mask attached to it. Ugh.

There's a weird subtext here where a source of tension is the fact that our heroes tacitly disapproves of another group's ice-fishing tactics. It's like someone wrote a…

"You know what'd be an awesome killer? A guy dressed like a fur trader with a welder's helmet and some sort of anvil on a stick." Right on that annoying line between awful and not too bad. All in all, this movie is almost okay. A little too "look how extreme we are dude," but some honestly funny dialogue exchanges and an interesting ending almost save it. Almost.
