Good Remakes
Yet again, based on Claire Ramirez's lists of good and bad remakes. And to honor her lists, I'm also having The Wicker Man on my list of "good" remakes, an inspired choice. This one is also based on Wikipedia's list of remakes (A-M, N-Z). These are the picks I think were good films, worthy of the original or in some rare cases, even better than the original. Click List view to read thoughts.
Friday the 13th, Halloween, The Hitcher, When a Stranger Calls and, especially, The Wicker Man are all awful. Seriously, The Wicker Man???
The Magnificent Seven, Scent of a Woman, and Heat should be on here.
Friday and Halloween I think both retained enough of the quality I was looking for in those movies, and I found them both really interesting, even enjoyable in some parts.
I owe it to myself to see the original The Hitcher, which may call for an update of this list. Same thing with When A Stranger Calls, but it's one of the "non-gore" films I quite like. ;)
I included The Wicker Man as a tribute to Claire's list, because she had it on her "Good Remakes" list as (I hope) something of a joke. "So awfully bad it's hysterically funny", which is true enough.
The last three are all films I need to revisit, but point taken.
um, I see Friday The 13th and The Hitcher on this list and I am now haemorraging.
but haha, The Wicker Man!
I LOVE IT BECAUSE IT'S SO HILARIOUS
NOT THE BEES ARGHGHJH;PH['HFH,HD;
I think 'Scarface' was a great remake too.
Scarface is a remake??..
True Lies is a remake??
yes Daryl, Scarface is a remake from the 1932 film.
If a film has the same name does it make it a remake?..
@Claire Didn't pick em to torment you. Just my own strange tastes. And YES! "Killing me won't bring back your stupid honey! How'd it get BURNTTT?!"
@Daryl I was surprised to learn True Lies was a remake too, but it is.
It is. I just Googled it. Apologies.
I know!
I'm just constantly tormented by their existence to be honest.
Keep Calm and Remember The Originals, haha. ;D
Inglorious Bastards is a far superior remake.
Inglorious Basterds isn't a remake.
Hmm, yeah, I don't really consider it a remake. Definitely inspired by the old version though. Nice thinking though, true that it's definitely superior. :D
