Ace in the Hole 1951
Kirk Douglas is excellent as a washed up reporter who sniffs out a big story while working for a small town newspaper, manipulating the event and the locals to sensationalize the story and get back to the league.

Ace in the Hole 1951
An angry, powerful gut-punch of a film. Should be mandatory viewing for any journalist.

A Fish Called Wanda 1988
A brilliant comedy. The four leads are just fantastic. It's a career best for Kevin "Don't call me stupid!" Kline, served with a tremendous script by John Cleese, proving he's still got it. Granted, it's dated a bit in the last 20 years, but this still makes my stomach ache. Superb.

American Psycho 2000
Christian Bale at his best. The writing is unparalleled and really shines in subsequent viewings. It's as depraved as it is hysterical, and definitely one of the best movies of its kind. Must-watch.

AntiTrust 2001
This is a super cheesy film about software development. At the time Microsoft had just been taken down in the infamous United States vs. Microsoft antitrust case. Surprisingly the writers did manage to capture and relay the spirit of the open source community. The film takes place in Portland (although it was primarily filmed in Vancouver BC) and features several songs by the Portland bands The Dandy Warhols, Elliot Smith, and Everclear.

OH MY GOD, LOOK AT HOW CONTROVERSIAL I AM!!!!!!
.......self indulgent garbage......

Babel 2006
A film about language and communication would normally grab my interest immediately. For the better part of this film the sheer quality and topics of most of the separate stories managed to do just that. There is enough to enjoy here, with strong performances and interesting subjects.
It is, however, also infuriatingly moronic in its contrived and forced narrative link. It makes a capital mistake in that it feels the incessant need to 'mean something'. It does so by force…

Batman Forever 1995

Batman Forever 1995
I honestly don't understand the hate for this film. Sure, this is the same director who gave us Batman & Robin (fucking bat credit card?) but this is no where near as bad and much, much better. Great set pieces. It's good light fun for those who thought the Burton films were too dark. Just as action packed, exciting, and every bit as cool. Val Kilmer is a pretty good Batman/Bruce Wayne. Jim Carrey is a perfectly cast and kinda awesome…
