  • The Lords of Salem 2013

    ★★★★ Watched 12 May, 2013

A return to form (in my opinion, I hated that stupid, needless Halloween remake and its sequel) for Mr Zombie.

  • The Exorcist III 1990

    ★★★★ Rewatched 21 May, 2013

One of the most under appreciated sequels of all time in my opinion. Fingers crossed though that someday we'll see Blatty's original directors cut.

  • Just Before Dawn 1981

    ★★★ Watched 15 May, 2013

Decent, if a little slow, early slasher entry that probably has more in common with Deliverance then Friday The 13th.

Worth watching alone for the way the killer is finally dispatched, it's certainly the last thing you'd expect to happen ha.

  • Beyond the Black Rainbow 2011

    ★★★★ Watched 15 May, 2013

Visually stunning throwback to late 70's/early 80's sci fi that actually feels genuine and not like a bunch of people playing dress up in retro clothes then banging on a scratch filter in final cut, like a lot of retro style films (I'm looking at you "Oh lets make a teh grindhouses filum" bandwagon jumpers)

It's not going to be a film for everyone, it's very sparse in the dialogue department and you're left to fill in the gaps a…

  • Apartment 143 2012

    ★½ Watched 09 May, 2013

    Yeah...what!?

To sum up, lots of ghostly phenomena happens, the daughter acts possessed, the Dr comes to the conclusion that's she's just schizophrenic and that none of this shit (like levitating, eyes rolling into the back of heads, demonic voices) are related to the paranormal ...or something.

    Jump scare. The End.

  • Tombstone 1993

    ★★★★★ Watched 05 May, 2013

It's taken me so long to get around to watching this, but now that I have i'd say it might just be my favourite western of all time.

At least in my top 3. Fantastic movie.

  • Noroi 2005

    ★★★★ Watched 07 Apr, 2013

Heard some high praise for this over the past couple of years, and being a fan of both J-horror and mockumentaries/found footage movies my interest peaked.

I really liked it, it's really well put together and genuinely feels like a real documentary for the most part, especially with the tv show clips that are peppered throughout the first act. All of the performances are good too, very natural and believable.

It doesn't really pile on the scares and blow its…

  • Hussy 1980

    ★★★ Watched 28 Mar, 2013

Going through a Helen Mirren phase at the moment, and with a title like 'Hussy', I couldn't turn down an chance to pick this up. It's a pretty solid thriller telling the story of a high (ish) class prostitute who falls for an American (rather quickly too, but ah they wanted to get to the sex and plot) but things go awry when seedy and dangerous folks from their past being to reappear.

    I enjoyed it quite a bit, it…

  • Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome 1985

    ★★★½ Rewatched 28 Mar, 2013

First time I've re-watched this for a good few years. Still lots of fun, yeah the kids are annoying and I really could've done without that plot development. But I've always said that the first 45 minutes of the movie features some of the best stuff in the entire trilogy. Max's look, Bartertown, Thunderdome...all fantastic.

  • Hobo with a Shotgun 2011

    ★★½ Watched 25 Mar, 2013

When this was first announced I was kind of looking forward to it, but as I should've guessed it turned into another supposed "grindhouse throwback" that feels more like a slick Troma movie.

This idea would've made a great, gritty exploitation movie (as we saw in the original faux trailer) but no as usual we have to go down the road of splatter and camp...pretty much making fun of everything rather than paying homage to it.

    Most frustrating is the…

  • The Raid: Redemption 2012

    ★★½ Rewatched 25 Mar, 2013

Gave it a second chance to see if I maybe's just wasn't in the mood the first time. Nope, it still didn't win me over.

It is really well directed, i'm not taking that away from it, with some great set pieces (the shotgun illuminating the team, the machete in the wall) but when it comes to the fight scenes i'm usually rolling my eyes at how hard they're trying to make it nasty and brutal. There's nothing wrong with…

  • The Veteran 2011

    ★★★★ Watched 18 Mar, 2013

Really enjoyed this, it's kind of like a mix of Dead Man's Shoes and Spooks with a bit of Death Wish-esque vigilante revenge thrown in there for good measure.

Toby Kebbell proves once again that he's one of the best young actors the UK has right now and I think it'll only be a matter of time until he lands a role that turns him into a household name.

It's a shame the cover art makes it look like a…
