While good, it is kept from being great by cliched motivations and a completely unbelievable and unrealistic tournament situation. The film is carried by some gorgeous cinematography and fine acting, but it exists in this strange running time valley. It's too long for the story it tries to tell, but I think a 3+ hour cut could flesh out plot lines that otherwise feel shallow and push it over the top.
