  • The Great Gatsby 2013

    ★★★½ Watched 16 May, 2013

Visuals are stunning, the film captures the scenery of 1920s America wonderfully, but does lack the essence of the book that the 1974 version brilliantly created. If I hadn't already read the book or watched the 1974 film, I may have thought differently about it.

I did enjoy the film much more than I thought. Tobey Maguire, an actor who I've hated in the past, is a perfect Nick Carraway and Carey Mulligan does capture the heart of Daisy. DiCaprio does play Gatsby very well-but, for me-Robert Redford will always be Jay Gatsby.

Probably one of the better films you shall see this summer.

  • The Master 2012

Genuinely fine filmaking and some truly sublime performances. Utterly engrossed in the film from start to finish. My favourite of 2012. I now know who my favourite director is.

  • Silver Linings Playbook 2012

    ★★★ Watched 12 Jan, 2013

As much as I enjoyed this film, I felt it just ended up being far too clichéed for my liking. The first half of the film is a quite brilliant depiction of mental illness, with characters I thought were genuinly new and unseen. However, the second part just felt lazy and I just felt a little cheated out of something which could have been explored much deeper.

Maybe I need a rewatch. Who knows.

One of the many films I watched time and time again as a child. Still sit and watch it even now. Solid excellent film.

Spielberg's genuine masterpiece for me. Just blew me away when I first watched it. Still feels so original even today.

  • Cruel Intentions 3 2004

    ½ Watched 16 Dec, 2012

Really don't know why I decided to watch this. I feel asleep towards the end. Just a pointless film. Stick to the 1999 film is all I can say.

  • Cruel Intentions 2 2000

    ★½ Watched 09 Dec, 2012

Much of the same ,exact story that we see in Cruel Intentions, doesn't really go anywhere but straight downhill.

  • The Happening 2008

    ½ Watched 29 Oct, 2012

God..this film is plain awful. So poorly written and unintentionally funny. Bloody hell, I won't be sitting through that again.

Grossly ignored in 2011. A stunning achievement by Paddy Considine. A Mordern British masterpiece.

  • The Tree of Life 2011

Still can't work out what I think of this film...

  • Inception 2010

Whatever anyone says this is filmaking at it's finest . Easily Nolan's greatest achievement to date for me and some of the greatest cinematic sequences I have ever seen. One of the very few films that I have been absolutely blown away by at the cinema. Just breathtaking absolutely breathtaking. Years from now we will see this film as one of the greatest of all time.

  • A Dangerous Method 2011

    ★★½ Watched 04 Aug, 2012 1

A film that's supposed to focus on the relationship between Freud and Jung instead relies heavily on the intense sexual relationship between Jung and his former patient Speilerein. This means key details on the birth of Psychoanalysis and the Freud and Jung relationship just are not explored. Mortensen has little screen time and the film just isn't as engaging as it should be.

Mortensen and Cassell are the highlights of the film.
