This film has no right to be this good. Well done tale of Bronson's quiet and detached hitman, a man who engineers deaths rather than commit them outright. He gains an apprentice, Jan-Michael Vincent, and then . . .

Similar themes to Grand Prix: men doing dangerous things and their personal lives. But the mixture is worse - the action shots of skydiving are not as exciting as auto racing (a victim to the activity's later popularity, perhaps), and the personal drama is even duller than the earlier film's. (In this case, it's a relationship between Deborah Kerr and Burt Lancaster, both of whom qualify as older). Gene Hackman turns in a characteristically energetic performance, but everyone else is either sleepwalking or making old fashioned adultery romance (depending on how you look at it).
