Wes Anderson is a formidable artist.

One who is not to everyone's taste, but one who has already composed a work of art or two. In fact as every piece rolls on he is becoming more and more popular.

His films now appear to appeal to all.

    All who love brilliance anyway.

The Grand Budapest Hotel is brilliant. It's still "quirky", which, it seems, is still what newcomers find appealing about Wes Anderson. Although merely labelling GBH as quirky doesn't…

Woah. My first cinematic disappointment in many a year.

Perhaps this is due to my own high expectations. He only has himself to blame for that.

The new Tarantino movie is a modern day film lovers event. There release is anticipated, and heralded like few other. Probably akin to the early days of cinema, or the news footages during the war. This is only the second Tarantino I have seen at the cinema, and it is the worst.

    Quentin Tarantino…

Quentin Tarantino is a master of many of the arts if film making, but he can't edit for shit. He does not know what to leave out of…

  • Her 2013

    ★★★★★ Watched 23 Jun, 2014

    Joaquin Phoenix you poor bastard.

You are clearly destined to never win the big one.

You give a performance like this and get nothing but praise. But what praise. He will forever be a victim of his slightly left field role choices.

It is hard to think of an actor of any generation that could have played the character of Theodore with any more conviction.

Phoenix is a revelation in this movie. He just seems to shed layer after later…

"And the award of Best Picture,

Best Actor in a Leading Role,

Best Actor in a Supporting Role,

    Best Director,

    Best Adapted Screenplay,

at the 86th Academy Awards goes to.... The Wolf of Fucking Wall Street."

That would certainly be the case if I had my say.

I have never felt such love for a shallow and disgusting pantomime.

But then rarely has a movie been so exciting.

A teenage movie director, with the vigour and enthusiasm that youth brings,…

    Gravity, O.M.G.

A film that makes Space scary, NOT the things that may exist within Space.

Alfonso Cueron and his team have made Space a frightening and beautiful place.

There are times where Gravity soars, and you feel you are in one of those POV fairground rounds. Your body swaying, heart pounding, and your stomach churning. The SFX and photography are some of the best ever. It is one of the best pieces of CGI cinema in the last 20…

Marvel might just be the new Walt Disney Studios.

And just like Walt Disney, they don't always get it right, but when they do, they get it very, very right.

Guardians of the Galaxy was never really going to be a risk for Marvel. They have earned the right to success by being brave and constantly inventive.

With Guardians they evolve that mantra even further. Taking us deeper into space, and indeed, comic book territory, this was always going to…

  • Gone Girl 2014

    ★★★★★ Watched 05 Feb, 2015

    Go on girl.

Gone Girl is a terrific psychological thriller with an astonishing turn from Rosamund Pike.

One that will surely make her a household name and an Oscar winning actress.

The movies director, David Fincher, has set about establishing a completely new tone in order to make this insane story insanier. With Pike's performance airing on the side of Jack Nicholson she needed a steady straight man, and obviously Ben Affleck delivers this. Their oppositly pitched performances come at…

"And the winner of The Academy Award for fucking everything is, Boyhood."

    Well nearly everything.

It certainly won't be getting any awards for it's leading actor. It was always going to be a risk from director Richard Linklater. He had almost perfectly cast his 6 year old Miles for his visionary movie, and now just had to hope that over the next 12 years that Ellar Coltrane possessed some natural acting talent. He didn't. He does however have enough natural…

    ★★★★★ Rewatched 29 Jun, 2013

Joss Whedon, the man who finally cracked Hulk in cinema. He builds up and teases the reveal brilliantly and then gives him all the best one liners.

This is phenomenal action film making.

It is more than just a superhero action spectacular.

It has some amazing scenes (Black Widows interrogation)

The script is excellent. Great dialogue, and hugely quotable lines ( No, it's won with soldiers.)

Yet perhaps most surprising of all is the excellent acting. (Banner and Romanov's first…
