Django Unchained 2012
Woah. My first cinematic disappointment in many a year.
Perhaps this is due to my own high expectations. He only has himself to blame for that.
The new Tarantino movie is a modern day film lovers event. There release is anticipated, and heralded like few other. Probably akin to the early days of cinema, or the news footages during the war. This is only the second Tarantino I have seen at the cinema, and it is the worst.
Quentin Tarantino…

The Avengers 2012
Phenomenal film making.
It is more than just a superhero action spectacular.
It has some amazing scenes (Black Widows interrogation)
The script is excellent. Great dialogue, and hugely quotable lines ( No, it's won with soldiers.)
Yet perhaps most surprising of all is the excellent acting. (Banner and Romanov's first meeting). The actors on show are of high quality, but this is a multi-million dollar action spectacular, where acting will not always necessarily be the be all and end all.
But best of all, it's a superhero action spectacular.

The Avengers 2012
Joss Whedon, the man who finally cracked Hulk in cinema. He builds up and teases the reveal brilliantly and then gives him all the best one liners.
This is the best film of 2012. If anything tops it, it will have to be stupendous. Avengers Assemble is slick, smart and funny. We all have our favourites, and every character has their moment to shine.
And when the Hulk catches Stark at the end a million geeks shed a fucking tear. Including this one.

The Dark Knight Rises 2012
4 months and 3 watches later...
...and I STILL have an erection.
Oscar worthy.

The Dark Knight Rises 2012
I still have an erection.
But I have seen some bad reviews and it has stirred my anger, so this is my review. Or at least the best I can muster.
NO SPOILERS.
I have been so pumped today. Watching this movie made me immediately go to the pub and drink 10 pints of Lager.
My erection levels for this film were set VERY high. I am a comic book geek. I fucking loved The Dark Knight, and so far…

The Dark Knight Rises 2012
WOW. I may never lose this erection!.
A sensible review may follow when the adrenaline wears off.
WOW.

Skyfall 2012
Sam Mendes proves his Bond making credentials, and confirms his excellent film making credentials.
Skyfall certainly is an excellent film. The best Bond film in 48 years. This is a proper spy film, and James Bond, as a character is a proper spy.
As a Bond fan this film pleased me in every way. You have to hand it to the film makers, it takes massive balls to put a 4 minute title sequence 10 minutes into a massive film…

Looper 2012
Super.
Very very good. This is intelligent, emotive, thought provoking and action packed film making. There is nothing new here really, but it is made in such a way, that comes across as a bit of a game changer. It is not, but it is a mind blowing movie, and they just don't come along as often as they should.
Levitt could well be the next action hero. He is top quality here. He handles his role beautifully. But lets…

Argo 2012
Well, well, well, this is quite a CV you are building Mr Affleck.
Argo is fantastic. Straying away from his Boston comfort zone he handles this continent straddling true story with somewhat unnerving skill. Unnerving that is, to those who never fully appreciated this skill in his previous directorial work anyway. The early 80s setting is captured brilliantly. The beards, the suits, the hair and the music are perfectly matched. The tone changes through-out are dealt with expertly, and are…

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 2012
Well, holy shit.
The Hobbit is phenomenal.
That is something I never expected, mainly due to some recent reviews i have read. Personally, I loved it.
I saw it in HFR 3D. I am not educated enough in the format to know quite how different it will look to the normal format. From my view today, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey looks out of this world. And for a story that is set out of this world, it fits perfectly.…

Silver Linings Playbook 2012
And the award for The Film That Made Daryl Blub Like a Baby goes to....
The many Oscar nominations for this film took me by surprise, but that was only because I hadn't seen it.
Now, the only surprise is how much I absolutely loved it.
Silver Linings Playbook deserves all the Oscar's.
It's fabulous.
Bradley Cooper has the best male performance in 2012.
Jennifer Lawrence has the best female performance in 2012.
They are both STUNNING. I kid you…
