The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 2012
It took me a long time to see the Hobbit. Which is akin to treason, I guess. So I saw it. I wanted to see it in HFR but I settled for 3D — I'll try to see it in HFR if the opportunity presents itself. The 3D was fantastic, and reasonably restrained. However I'm still waiting for the 3D film that doesn't turn theme-park ride and try to make me duck.
Serkis / Gollum was fantastic — hands down…

Cloud Atlas 2012
Having read the book only after seeing the trailer a few months ago, I was never in the camp that thought the book should/could never be turned into a film. I read the book with an almost insurmountable amount of hype behind it, but it met those expectations handily. The film has been hyped even more than the book, with good reason! The book is epic and dramatic, spanning vast amounts of time and space. Even though it has one…

Prometheus 2012
Prometheus has landed; finally. After months of spoiler-heavy trailers we get to see if it really is a prequel to Alien and whether Ridley Scott’s return to the universe he helped establish was worth the 33 year wait. Unfortunately, even having seen the film, the answers to both these questions remain unclear.
Whilst it is a prequel in the broadest sense (i.e. existing within the same universe and occurring before the events of the previous film) it is clear why…

Piranha 3DD 2012
I thought this was going to be an ironic horror film. It was not. Rather than laughing at bikini babes and pool boys attacked by piranhas and defended by the Hoff, we're supposed to drool over numerous gratuitous topless and crotch shots.
There were two amusing lines, and the closing credits were the best part of the film. Avoid at all costs. It's not so bad it's good. It's just a waste of time.

The Island 2005
One of my favourite Michael Bay movie. Mostly because of the amazing sets, explosions, and Scar Jo + Ewan goodness. I really love the look of this film and it's way less douchy than the Bad Boys flicks.
POWER MANE FTW!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 2011
I won't lie and say I'm NOT a huge Harry Potter fan, when I have a full Ravenclaw outfit hanging in my closet. When the books first came out I was meh about them and purposely avoided reading them because I didn't want to be part of the Potter Cult. You see I hate "belonging", so I really try hard to be difficult when it comes to pop culture.
One day I had a nasty cold and someone loaned me…
