Quite simply the bleach your eyes after viewing

Quite simple really. NEVER watch these films. You'll thank me for it later. Horrible, horrible films.

  • Really? Attack the Block? I thought that was one of if not THE best film released last year. Very much in tone with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz (which makes sense as it's produced by the director of those films).

Everything else on your list I pretty much agree with.

  • Sorry I found ATB extremely objectionable. The street chat script was beyond lame and all the protagonists are instantly dislikeable. We are meant to root for a group of muggers?! Sorry this film is plain awful. Not a patch of SotD or HF.

  • >We are meant to root for a group of muggers?!

That's the whole point and what's so awesome about the film. The protagonists are introduced in their first scene in the worst possible light, then as you get to know them as the film goes on, you (hopefully) start to actually like and sympathize with them -- while still not forgiving them for what they did/do. This is the aspect of the film (besides the great script, humor, characters, action, etc.) that sets the movie apart for me.

It's tied for best movie of 2011 with Take Shelter in my mind.

  • I'd have had no problem rooting for the muggers if they'd had a smattering of charisma between them. The film is riddled with disappointment e.g. weak script, poor dialogue, pancake-flat and cliched characters.

  • Great list, and I pretty much agree across the board (for the ones I've had the misfortune to see). For the record that includes AtB, for exactly the reasons you give. The only one I'll call you on is 2012: yes, it's one of the worst blockbusters out there, but I'll always watch it if it's on, because it makes me laugh so damn loud. 'The neutrinos are mutating' et al...sheer comedy genius.

  • With you on most of these, but DEEP COVER? That's a great film...
