Django Unchained 2012
"Come on over. We got us a fight going on that's a good bit of fun." - Calvin Candie.
He's gone done did it again. He's made another cracker.
Now it's not perfect and could be considered a lesser Tarantino effort, but that is not necessarily a major complaint from me, as below par QT is still way ahead of most out there.
The length of a movie is never a negative for me. A film can be as long… -
The Avengers 2012
When I watched Iron Man all those years ago and saw the stinger after the credits to reveal Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury and thus revealing Marvels plans of an Avengers movie, I felt an enormous feeling of excitement tempered with a dose of trepidation. A movie chock full of heroes? How could this work without marginalising some of the big names? A movie with this ambition could easily collapse in on itself and become a failure of epic…

Skyfall 2012
Consider my socks well and truly blown right off. On the 50th anniversary of the Bond franchise, Sam Mendes has delivered what can only be described as a cinematic delight. After watching all of the Bond films recently I was going into this with a little bit of excitement, and what I was given was the full gamut of emotions. From the outstanding 12 minute pre-credit action extravaganza to the finale - which had a touch of 'Straw Dogs' about…

Prometheus 2012
Every now and again one of those films crops up and treats it's audience like they have the capability of thought and the riches that thinking can bring. This is one such movie. Although it sometimes feels like a thesis on science and faith written by a leading philosopher but read by Kim Kardashian.
It's very pretty. Very pretty indeed. In fact I'll probably say it's the best looking film I've seen in a long time. But even true beauty… -
Moonrise Kingdom 2012
...or how Wes Anderson got his groove back.
That's maybe not so fair as 'The Fantastic Mr. Fox' was a pretty awesome film. But after the relative disappointment of 'The Darjeeling Limited, this is a return to form for Anderson's live action fare.
If you want a film that perfectly represents Wes Anderson's directorial career, this is it. He picks and chooses some of the best bits from his past features like succulent fruit from a tree and turns them… -
Pulp Fiction 1994
Forrest Gump. Forrest. Fucking. Gump.
Now don't get me wrong, I like that movie. It's pretty good. But is it really better than Pulp Fiction as the Academy would have us believe? No. Of course not. I suppose I shouldn't worry because, which of these films has stood the test of time? That's right.
When thinking about what to write for this review I realised that everything has already been said. And probably said better than I could possibly hope… -
The Cabin in the Woods 2012
"An army of nightmares, huh? Let's get this party started."
The saying goes "Give the people what they want", and fuck me, that is what they gave me. While it is a love letter to horror of years gone by, it's also a critique of how the genre has stagnated over recent years.
Time will only tell if Hollywood will listen to the message made and give the horror genre the kick-start it needs instead of regurgitating the same old… -
The Cabin in the Woods 2012
I see there are so many opinions and scores for this film so I'll probably upset someone with my score so I'll just say this.
I know this film panders like a m****rf****r, but I'm one of the people it panders to. It cupped my balls and gave them a tickle and a bit of a massage. And I liked it. Nay, I loved it. Sorry. -
Inglourious Basterds 2009
This review reportedly contains spoilers. I can handle the truth.

The Hunger Games 2012
When I first heard of this movie I had written it off as a 'Battle Royale for the Twilight generation. But I must hold my hands up and admit I was wrong. Well, sort of wrong as it is a little light for a film about kids killing each other but it is much better than I first feared.
This is in no short part due to Jennifer Lawrence who kicks all kind of ass as our heroine Katniss Everdean,…
