List by Geir Friestad
A highly personal top fifteen of fang flicks
My favorite cinematic takes on the vampire probably differs greatly from what might be considered the "correct" choices. But I have little patience for the Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee incarnations. I don't like Coppola's movie, Jean Rollins' endless stream of tedious fanged soft porn, or the wildly overrated Lost Boys. So this is very much MY list of favorite ("best" doesn't seem like the appropriate term) vampire movies. And just to be clear: Near Dark and Let the Right One In share the number one spot. Letterboxd just doesn't let me number them like that.
Originally this was a top ten list, but Adam Cook's massive vampire list reminded me of several favorites that I had simply forgotten, and I felt the need to expand it a bit.

Cool list. Can't really say I disagree with your top 5. On the bottom half I haven't seen 6,7,9. Thanks!
How strange. Last night I compiled a vampire list (basically every vampire film I've seen ranked in order) so I think I'll hold off posting it. Our top five is reasonably similar though.
Heh, that's interesting. I was inspired to assemble this list yesterday when I was watching a couple of Kathryn Bigelow trailers, and stumbled across Near Dark's bar scene in its entirety.
Wouldn't mind seeing your list anytime in the future, Adam!
I'll post it tomorrow. It is set to private and all ready to go.
Great list. Would love to see your bottom 10.
Fangtastic (groan).
I love your top 5 choices.
@HotDonkeyBear: Thanks for that! I'm not terribly enthusiastic about negative lists though, so chances are low that I'll put together a list like the one you wish for. But maybe. We'll see!
@Bizarre_Eye: Well played, sir. Well played.
Oh, but of course! The list just wouldn't be complete without at least one hopping vampire movie, and this is the best of them. :-)
Nice list. I'll agree on the top 5 (maybe in different order, depending on my mood). 6-9 and 11-15 would be Hammer titles for me. Oh, and BLACULA!
In retrospect, and judging from all the comments, I guess the top 5 movies are all pretty traditional choices. At least I stirred things up a bit with the rest of the list. :-)
Incidentally, I'm a huge fan of Shunji Iwai, so I'm curious to see if Vampire will edge its way onto the list once I finally get it to see it (probably not until 2013). I've got my fingers crossed.
