Takeshi Kitano ranked

Multitalented director Takeshi Kitano's movies how I see them.

  • I've only seen six of these, and at least plan to see Hana-bi and Zatoichi.

  • You are way ahead of me. I only saw Zatoichi (and loved it).

  • There's not a single bad movie in his entire filmography so far, but a few of them are lesser works (Outrage, Brother), and some of them only work properly if you're familiar with all facets of Kitano's persona (this would be Getting Any?, Glory to the Filmmaker, Takeshis' and Achilles and the Tortoise). Hana-Bi ("Fireworks") and Sonatine are the two movies that define Kitano the filmmaker most. A great place to start, in other words!
