From all I heard this was going to be a soul crushing film, even my daughter thought I'd be a wreck after it.

But I wasn't! Wasn't even close to breaking down, I felt sad but that was all. Looking back on it I can only assume I kept myself detached from what I was watching. I never felt in touch with what was happening, I was listening to what they were saying but not absorbing the context, the emotions. Maybe I didn't want to get involved becuase I knew the outcome wasn't going to be a happy one!
This detachment also happened in The Mist, knowing the ending was going to be devastating, I never got involved in the film in any depth. The ending as powerful as it was didn't hit me as hard as it should have!

Back to this film and I did like it, the performances from the cast were all very good, the script was fine. The music was superb.

It's just a shame I didn't get emotionally involved with it!
