The Avengers 2012
A perfect comic book movie. The most fun I've had at the theater in a long time. Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Ruffalo steal the show. Everyone in this film got to showcase exactly what is great about their individual characters.

Argo 2012
Wow. This movie was gripping from beginning to end. Based on a true, now declassified, story, Ben Affleck is incredible as both actor and director at taking us through the details, emotions and tensions of this tale. A must see. Excellent performances by all. I was so anxious in the last 15 minutes of the film that I started (but didn't finish) Googling the ending on my phone.

Inception 2010
I have seen this movie over 50 times without exaggeration. I once watched it 3 times in a row on a flight. Smart, engaging, emotional, psychologically thrilling and visually impressive. Frustrating but great ending. One of my favorite films of 2010. Excellent performances by an incredible ensemble cast.

Silver Linings Playbook 2012
Heartwarming and genuine performances by both Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence. Great film.

Moonrise Kingdom 2012
This is my favorite film of the year so far. Everything about it is perfect - the performances, how visually beautiful it is, the timing of the comedy and the deliverance of such mature performances by Kara Hayward and Jared Gilman. I could and will watch this movie over and over again. This and The Royal Tenenbaums are my favorite Wes Anderson films.

The Cabin in the Woods 2012
Incredibly creative and nothing like I expected. Joss Whedon gives the viewer a unique mix of terror, humor and weirdness. So many horror movies follow a boring template and it often leaves no room for new concepts. This film debunks and manages to poke fun at traditional ideas simultaneously. Very fun. Joss Whedon can do it all.

The Master 2012
In a way I felt like this film was about itself - a great man trying to convince everyone that something, an idea or set of beliefs, is truly great but it not really being so. This film is visually beautiful and the performances from Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix are incredible, however I still left the theater feeling as though I didn't "get" something or that I'd missed something crucial. The balance of master and subject between Joaquin and PSH is fascinating and the way in which that relationship balance plays out are the best scenes in the film.

Wreck-It Ralph 2012
One of my favorite films of the year. This movie has amazing voice work, a beautiful story, strong characters and story arcs, and so much attention to detail within the narrative. A very Disney message to love yourself the way you are and not to bully those who are different, or who have a "glitch." Excellent usage of puns and good use of licensed video game characters without relying on that for the jokes. Made me feel nostalgic and happy and good. Go see this film!

The Social Network 2010
This is one of my favorite films of all time and definitely for 2010. I love the way this story is told. Jesse Eisenberg is so believable as Mark Zuckerberg and the score is one of my all-time favorites as well. Films based on a true story are always among my most enjoyed.
