Beautiful! You can find this moving film on YouTube free and legal from the Korean Film Archive. It's well worth checking out this story of a boy abandoned at a Buddhist temple who keeps waiting for his mother to return.

It's like a fun, but stupid, 1950s American romantic comedy with music, except it's Chinese. I had a really good time with it, bad subtitles and all.

I don't want to talk bad about Glauber Rocha because I love his 1960s films, but this isn't good. It's one of those latter day messes that talented non-US directors tend to make at the end of their career. It often entails a whole bunch of incomprehensible stuff stretched over inhumane running times with didactic and self-reflexive dialogue mixed with surreal images, and whatever else they can think to throw at the screen.
