I've long been a fan of Aardman's creative writing, amazing claymation, and clever (though sometimes crude) humor.
This one fell short in every area. The animation isn't quite as classic as, say Wallace and Gromit or Chicken Run, the storyline is a bit boring and not very creative, and it isn't nearly as funny as most of their other work.
As is typical of Aardman, there is an amount of crude humor and suggestive content. Not as much as I was expecting from reading reviews, but a lot more than should be in a kids PG film.
Past all that, it is still funny, and a fairly enjoyable watch.
While I wasn't expecting a whole lot, The Pirates! lacked the creativity that I thought I could count on from Aardman.
