2012 2009

Reviewed Jun 07, 2012

Well, if the world really does end in 2012 (of course it won't, don't be stupid) at least it'll be the only way to put a stop to shitty Hollywood flicks like this.

We may not get to see the end of the world anytime soon, but what we do see is a wasted cast (it's really sad seeing Chiwetel Ejiofer and John Cusack in this), annoying characters, a clunky cliched story, overlong, slow moving, and a dumb film. You get pretty great special effects, but they're not good enough to torture yourself with such a shitty film. Some might find it laughably bad though.

When 2013 rolls around, this will be one of the funniest films ever made. That's a prediction they should have put on the Mayan calender.

  • "Some might find it laughably bad though."

Yup. It was the funniest film of 2009 for me.

  • Olivier platt's the best thing in it as he's the only one who appears to have a brain

  • @Cinebro Just wait til 2013. It's just gonna get funnier and funnier.

@Paul I felt the same way. He was one of the only characters who not only did'nt piss me off, but seemed smarter than his own team.

  • I find that a recurring thing with Emmerich's movies is that the only characters I feel are even remotely likable are the ones who are presented as assholes that we're supposed to want dead. Oliver Platt in 2012 is probably the most glaring example.
I'm not sure whether this says more about me or Ol' Roland.

  • See, what you don't understand is Roland Emmerich's films are actually an elaborate social experiment to see how mass consumers react to characters in a hypothetically dangerous position.

In all truth, he's actually sacrificing good will for a great social thesis on man.

In that regard, he is the greatest filmmaker of all time.
