Silent J’s review:
I expected this to be a great film and possibly one of the best of 2011. Sadly, I was greatly disappointed. The film is very tame for a David Cronenberg film. It's interesting at times, but comes off as slow and dry. Did'nt delve as deeply as it could between Jung and Freud's relationship, which is a shame given that Fassbender and Mortensen are both fantastic and have excellent chemistry. Keira Knightley seemed over the top, like she tried way too hard. I loved the landscape design, the scenery, costume design, and cinematography. The strong cast and beautiful scenery give an otherwise dead pan film a pulse and make up for some of the flaws.
