Silent J’s review:
This is probably what it would look like if John Hughes made a horror film and it looks pretty damn good. Technically amazing, well written, and superbly acted especially by Sissy Spacek.
On a side note, I don't see how the remake can do better. I understand it is more of a book adaptation than a remake and I have faith because of the supporting cast so far (Julianne Moore, Hope Davis) and I like Chole Grace Moretz, who was in a good film people said could'nt be remade (Let Me In) but I'm not sure how it could match the amazing work Brian De Palma put into this classic. We'll see I guess.
Your John Hughes comparison is excellent.
I think the Mortez film is actually the third remake of the film!
Actually, it will be the second remake. In 2002, it was intended as a tv pilot but it was so bad it ended up being a film on tv. There was a sequel to Carrie in 1999 but the less said about that film is for the better. Let's just say the remake is on my Bottom 100 and let's leave it at that.
Have you seen the TV pilot version? It seems to have the full plot of the original film, so I'm wondering how they intended the series to play out. I'm imagining an Incredible Hulk style series. Carrie White travels from town to town encountering new people each week and helping those in need. Unfortunately, she arrives in each town while they're planning some sort of dance event and...
I have'nt and I'm not sure if I will. If I do, it's because the only thing that interests me about the pilot is that Patricia Clarkson, one of my favorite actresses, played the mother and I'm usually willing to watch anything with her in it.
