Alfred Hitchcock > Brian De Palma
Now can someone get that through De Palma's skull so he can stop trying to emulate him like an obsessed fanboy?
Excuse me, Sir, but I believe you've got something wrong there.
Please, tell me what's wrong so I can appease your needs.
I just like De Palma better, that's all. :>
That's understandable and I respect that opinion. I like De Palma and he has made some great films, but he just tried to hard to emulate Hitchcock in this and it felt more like a Hitchcock ripoff than a homage. Not as good as De Palma's best works. Plus I just like Hitchcock more.
While I largely agree, one thing I can certainly appreciate is that when De Palma directly quotes Hitchcock, he makes the implicit explicit. For example: if you were titillated by the near nudity of Janet Leigh in Psycho, by God, De Palma is going to give you Angie Dickinson COMPLETELY nude.
There's a perverse pleasure in the stripping of artifice (quite literally!)
