Silent J’s review:
Not just anyone can make a silent film in todays day and age, but Oscar winning Director Michael Hazanavicius did a beautiful job of doing just that. He got flawless performances out of each actor. Jean Dujardin (Best Actor winner) and Berenice Bejo (Best Supporting Actress nominee) have perfect chemistry. They don't have to say anything and yet say more with a look than any of us can say in 1000 words. You even get a show stealing performance by Uggie the Dog! The black and white cinematography looks stunning, the story can be touching, funny, interesting, witty, and even goes to dark places at times, the score is amazing, the dance numbers are nice, and it does an excellent job creating that classic movie feel.
For the first time in a long time, The Artist winning Best Picture is something I have no problem with and something i can actually agree with The Academy on. It's a near perfect film so see it as soon as you can. You won't regret it, especially if you're a cinema lover or silent film fan.
