Total Recall 1990 ★★★★★

Rewatched Aug 05, 2012

With the recent release of this film's remake, I thought it would be a good time to rewatch this and on a second watch, it's even better. What else can I say that hasn't already been said?

Arnold Schwarzenegger kicks ass as always.

Fun as hell.

Exciting action.

Interesting and captivating sci-fi.

Cool practical effects.

Seeing Sharon Stone's fine ass kick some ass.

Michael Ironside.

The three titty lady.

Badass.

I can't see the remake topping this classic...unless the remake has a four titty lady. That might help.

  • For my money, "Total Recall" is the best stand-alone sci-fi film ever. Well, maybe it's not the best, but it is my favorite.

  • Even if it's not the best stand alone sci-fi film, it definitely comes pretty close.

  • It's the most fun at least. Seriously, what comes close?

  • Nothing really comes to mind. The only one that is almost just as fun as this is The 6th Day but I think I might be in the minority who love that film as much as this. In any case, I doubt the remake will even come close.

  • Thanks for not saying "2001." I don't know if I've seen "The 6th Day."

Read my review after you see the remake. We'll probably be on the same page.

  • Will do. I'm still not 100% sure if I'll see it or not. Collin Farrel just doesn't sound like a suitable replacement for The Governator. I get that he fits Philip K. Dick's description of the character, but I don't know. Not the biggest Farrell fan.

  • My step-dad's take on the remake was that it had a better cast, but the original was the better film; and he's right about the latter at least. Farrel in the original (use your imagination) may have been something, but it's an iconic Arnie performance.

  • If I do end up seeing the remake, I'll keep that in mind.

  • This also has one of the best action soundtracks - Jerry Goldsmith at his finest. Doubt the remake will sounds as good either, but seeing as they seem to be following the original film pretty closely, as opposed to the book its based on, I wouldn't be surprised to hear some of that original score bastardised like the rest of the movie.

  • Yeah, good point. Hopefully the remake will stride to be it's own thing instead of referencing or copying the original too much, kinda like the Fright Night remake.
