We Need to Talk About Kevin 2011

I'm probably going to piss a few people off with this one but I really disliked this film. It just felt like a pretentious style over substance film that uses that "art house" feel in order to say "You don't get it because it's art house. This is actually amazing." It uses stunning (which sometimes look laughably cheesy) visuals to hide a bad, underdeveloped, and piss poor script. It uses music to...well I don't even know. The music is all over the place. Happy uplifting music is played over a sad scene or a shocking revelation. Why? To confuse peopl into thinking "This film is absolutely brilliant! I don't get it and was confused through half of it, but it's art house! Wonderful art house!" This is just a mess of a film. Aside from Tilda Swinton's fantastic performance which arguably might be the best performance of 2011, We Need To Talk About Kevin was just dull crap in my eyes.
Agree. The film was very sloppy.
I haven't seen this yet and you never know I might like it, but I just had to say THUMBS UP for the Art House comments. Sick and tired of Artsy Films that are declared masterpieces by people before they even see it.
Great Review Man! I'm pissed I watched this. I really have to stop impulse buying movies that I'm not sure about. I want my $20 back. Fuck!!
@grooveman, forget about Kevin, we need to talk about netflix. You'll never waste $20 again (on movies anyway).
@Stephanie. I know I have netflix. Problem is that they don't get new films right away so the ones I really look forward to (Like this one) I usually pick up on blu-ray. I really should start waiting for fims I'm not sure about. Have you seen this? I loathed this more than any film in recent memory!!
I haven't seen it yet because it's not streaming, it's in the DVD queue so one of these days I'll get around to it. After reading this review I can't really say I'm looking forward to seeing it as much as I was.
Just saw this movie, and I loved it.
I didn't expect that you would rate it 1 star, since I thought you love this kind of movies.
