Battle Royale II: Requiem 2003
If I want to see a particular movie, nothing can dissuade me from watching it. Even after watching Battle Royale, and realizing that there was no way in hell a sequel could recapture its magic, I still went into this movie optimistic. Even knowing the horrible critical and public reception this sequel received, I still pushed play hoping that it was all just a misunderstanding and that...

The Duel 1971
The Duel is an incredible martial arts motion picture. It might not be the type of movie that will convince non-martial arts fans of the greatness of the genre, but it will definitely delight and entertain those already in love. The Duel features so much flat-out awesome action, while also telling a very succinct and morally charged revenge tale, it’s truly one of Chang Cheh’s best films. I’m tempted to say that...

The Killer Meteors 1976
Right outta the gate: this isn’t a Jackie Chan movie. He plays a villain and has a couple of fights, but this is a Jimmy Wang Yu movie all the way. If you go into this movie expecting anything remotely similar to a Jackie movie, you’ll be sorely disappointed. So set your expectations to Lo Wei/Jimmy Wang Yu classic wuxia, and you should have a grand ole time like I did. My high assessment of The Killer Meteors will likely be an unpopular opinion, but...

The Queen of Versailles 2012
The Queen of Versailles is a film that I like in premise more than I like the actual movie. The idea of watching a movie about a rich family losing their fortunes and having to cope with the financial recession that hit a couple of years ago sounds like a crackin’ good time to lowly ole me. But in actual practice it’s...

Young Sherlock Holmes 1985
Young Sherlock Holmes tells a “What if?” story about what might have been if Holmes and Watson had met during their school days. The filmmakers make it a point to inform the viewer (twice!) that this tale is non-canonical and...

Ace in the Hole 1951
Incredible. Absolutely one of Wilder's best. It's surprising how under the radar it is compared to his other stuff.

Good Taste Made Bad Taste 1988
Probably my favorite short doc on filmmaking. I've seen it countless times, and every time I'm still amazed at how ambitious Peter Jackson was. Knowing how it was made makes Bad Taste so much more impressive. Anyone who's ever wanted to make a movie should totally watch this.

Aliens vs Predator: Requiem 2007
Start to finish awful.

Three Extremes II 2002
The third segment Going Home was great, the other two were boring.

Seeding of a Ghost 1983
It's not nearly as good as Bewitched, or nearly as insane as The Boxer's Omen, but Seeding of a Ghost is still a great time at the black magic movies.
