Scott Kaczynski’s review published on Letterboxd :
This is the anti-Tim Burton film.
This movie might tell some tall tales but has something his other movies just doesn't have, heart. No matter how many times I see this movie it always makes me cry. For that it gets an automatic five stars.
Burton's directing and Elfman's score are toned down and tight. The stories might be exaggerated but it's not hitting us in the face with neon colors and quirky sounds. I love Tim Burton but I wish more of his movie followed this format and allowed him to engage his audience through the script not the visuals.
I could probably do without the Danny Devito bare-ass werewolf bit, but nothing's perfect.
