Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street 2007

PolackJoe’s review:
Probably one of the most unconventional source materials for a musical, and unlike most of Sondheim's early work, the score is quite challenging.
I love that Tim Burton did not shoot this movie as if trying to recreate a Broadway show. He took the source, the songs and the score and created a movie experience.
If you have only heard the songs once, or are completely unfamiliar going in, I will warn you that they are not automatic toe-tappers. They become toe-tappers the more you listen, and that's the brilliance of Sondheim.
Helena Bonham Carter is screen magic as always.
