Heat 1995

Mike Harding’s review:
One of the greats. It's been a number of years since I first saw this, so thankfully I had forgotten most of the plot (aside from some of the locations and visual setups) and could come at it again with almost-fresh eyes. A superb cast, incredible shoot-outs, beautiful visual composition, and the right amount of tension to carry it through the full 170 minutes. Outside of the usual giveaways (car phones with cords, old CRT monitors, large mobile phones) this is a cops & robbers tale that could easily have been made in present day — and I certainly would LOVE to have seen this on the big screen.
True. Absolutely my favorite Michael Mann picture. I agree that it has aged remarkably well. I also would love to experience it in a richer presentation than what is offered by my 1995 first-run DVD. I should snatch up the Blu-ray for 8 bucks on Amazon.
There’s a Blu-ray of Heat? Awesome.
There is, but judging from the first customer review on Amazon, it sounds like the notoriously "meh" remastering seen on the first two DVD releases has been carried over to the Blu-ray as well, which is a shame.
Drat. Michael Mann deserves better.

@Erik: I've got a whole DVD of bonus features to watch yet, which I'm looking forward to. One other thing I forgot to mention in my review was the number of quotable lines in the film — there are some timeless gems in there :)
@Marcin: Yes, yes he does.
Favorite quotable line from it for me is probably:
"What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone."
I'm sure you know the rest.
