Tamara Drewe 2010 ★★★½

A nicely ‘british’ film based on the graphic novel by Posy Simmonds (which was in turn based on the Thomas Hardy novel Far from the Madding Crowd). The interweaving plots left us remarking how it felt a lot like a Shakespeare adaptation of sorts, particularly with some of the secondary characters, and although it's full of stereotypes (the smarmy cheating husband, the doormat wife, the man-child rock star, the good-looking down-to-earth farmboy, etc.) I found it to be quite an enjoyable watch, helped by the healthy smattering of British humour and a good ensemble cast.
