Cars 2 is an excellent take on the classic spy movie, just like Kung Fu Panda is an excellent take on the classic kung fu movie. Or at least it would be if the decision to put it into the world from Cars didn't keep detracting from the story.

Granted, there are moments where that decision provides some fun moments, and funny gags, but it never comes to more than that. Instead, the universe raises more questions as the incredible expansion compared to the original Cars movie put the characters into situations where there is no logical way for a sentient car to resolve it.

I would have loved this movie had it been made as a wholly independent movie of all the previous Pixar universes.
