  • I've only seen 25 movies from your list so far. I'm going to see Three Colors: Red soon. Especially glad to see Shame, Hunger, Russian Ark, Reservoir Dogs, Magnolia, Boogie Nights, The 400 Blows, and Blazing Saddles here :)

  • I've seen 68 and some of the ones I haven't have been on my "to see" list for quite some time; it's long past due I sat my ass down and watched them, starting with Last Year at Marienbad. Can't believe I still haven't gotten around to seeing it!

I notice (and appreciate) that your list has changed and evolved from the one on Southern Vision, which has also evolved over the years as you've updated it. We all have our core films that remain and should, because they have had a profound effect on us, but as we watch new films and revisit older ones, it's only logical that the list be malleable enough to accommodate new tastes and new discoveries with films we may have misunderstood or under appreciated in the past.

  • Yes, this list is always evolving and I'm glad someone is appreciating it. Definitely try and see as many of the 32 remaining as you can. Last Year at Marienbad is mindblowing.

  • Cool list dude (I've seen 59). Anyone who has Code Unknown that high is fine by me.

  • Thanks. Code Unknown is a masterpiece.

  • This is an inane question - and one which I've been asked elsewhere about my favourite stuff - but does the list also include favourite "comfort films" that you would watch when feeling ill etc? (Admittedly I can see that potential in perhaps 5 out of the 48 I've watched.)

It is easy to have such doubts about a list full of things with great artistic merit, but then I suppose I know people who read Joyce as a pick-me-up.

  • Interesting question. It's difficult to calculate 'favourite films' as there are so many factors that go into such a list. However, I like to think that if I needed a comfort film, the one/s I'd most likely end up choosing would come from this list.

  • It looks as though you'd enjoy Fassbinder, you seen any of his work?

  • I certainly have, he is one of my favourite directors. Here's a list of all from him I've seen.
