Fincher has secured his place as a true master director here, skilfully manipulating his audience at the level of Hitchcock. Brilliantly cast, wonderfully shot and utterly compelling storytelling from start to finish.

Well that's something you don't see every day...

They say " It's not the destination, but the journey that matters." Who says that exactly? Surfers, Hippies and trustafarian students on a gap year, basically people who don't commute into and out of the capital day in and day out on a train, I expect. When it comes to movies the destination generally needs to be a pretty fucking good one, lets not forget Sunshine and I Am Legend...so it's a little frustrating that Snowpiercer's last stop was the cinematic equivalent of pulling into Skegness. But the journey there, man, in this instance is well worth the ticket!

Watching this was a real effort. Chandor makes you feel every bit of his lone survivor's struggle, the ageing Redford's physical performance impressive throughout. It's an incredibly tangible experience, the claustrophobia at times comfortingly secure yet with the threat of entrapment, the tight camera work a constant reminder that there is ultimately no escape to be had. Slowly the naturalistic survival story gives away to a more symbolic examination of old age and mortality. As it does, the haunting sea…

Packed with surprises and at times wonderfully inventive, I fell pretty hard for this joyful piece of comicbook sci-fi. It made me feel like a kid again and reminded me how vast and exciting i used to imagine space to be. Plus its genuinely funny and touching. Yep, I'm hooked...

Revels in the absurdity of performance, both in cinema and life.

I guess I don't find ice to be that scary, ice in space is still ice. I have some in my freezer. I put some in my cider earlier.

  • Dawn of the Planet of the Apes 2014

    ★★★ Watched 10 Jul, 2014

Emotionally manipulative and predictable story can't take away from the power of a duel wielding monkey riding a horse!

  • Her 2013

    ★★★ Watched 06 Jul, 2014

It's no Mannequin, but had just enough feels to make up for the slow pace and paper thin storyline. Good job by Phoenix and Johansson, managed to keep me engaged to the end, but didn't turn out to be one of my cinematic great loves.

  • Deadbeat at Dawn 1988

    ★★★½ Watched 05 Jul, 2014

Jim Van Bebber stars, wrote and directed this enjoyable piece of rough and ready exploitation. It's so ghetto fantasy that his nunchuck swinging, wall running, ninja star throwing, fly kicking antihero isn't as ridiculous as it sounds. 'Goose' has a lot of heart, drowning in the dirt, blood and graffiti of his inescapable urban prison and doomed fate. I love a film that tells you to go screw yourself and this one is pure attitude. Special mention to crazy 'Bone Cruncher'...that guy was Michael Shannoning before Micheal Shannon!

  • Lovelace 2013

Interesting approach to the bio-pic, but felt a little too light on the details. Sharon Stone doing a Sigouney Weaver was a surprise treat.
