    Mad Max: Fury Road 2015

    ★★★★ Watched 17 May, 2015

There is something wonderful about the insane moments being physically created, bit like the acid bridge scene from Apocalypse now. I fully welcome the return to this sort of filmmaking even though the final product didn't achieve the masterpiece status others are proclaiming it to be. I loved so much about it, especially the ruling family of characters and the strong female lead, but it didn't feel like a Matrix or The Raid kind of leap for the action genre...more a nostalgic love letter on some very fancy paper.

You know that bit at the end of Swingers where he's on the phone and just looks happy as fuck? That' was me through this whole movie.

Started off really well, Spider-Man is great in this one...shame about the villain/s. Oh well, on to the next re-boot...

The best bit was Hulk Buster repeatedly punching The Hulk in the face...but was it as good as The Hulk punching Thor or Groot stabbing all those guys and smashing their bodies around? Probably not, but still great fun.

Taken was a surprising kick up the arse of the action movie genre. At a time when all the rioded out 80s heroes of punching people films were being strong-armed backed down the gym by Stallone, Neeson was your old da ready to fuck manz up for trying to pimp out his daughter! He didn't need to get a pump before the director called action, he had a particular set of skills (which basically meant he'd watched the 24 boxset…

    American Hustle 2013

    ★★★ Watched 01 May, 2015

I watched this on a plane, most of the cleavage was blurred out, the swearing dubbed over and the conspiratorial whispers lost under the hum of jet engines. How ever I have a pretty good imagination so enjoyed this. The main players all managed to leap out of the seat back screen, especially Jennifer Lawrence who looked like she thought she was in a Martin Scorsese movie rather than this wannabe effort.

I read a book called The Forever War ages ago that dealt with soldiers fighting across vast reaches of space and the complications delays in time cause in such a conflict, chiefly in the relay of information. Interstellar also plays around with this concept to very pleasing effect. Great to see a film touch on this type of subject matter while telling the simple story of a father trying to reconnect with his daughter.

I think there is a message buried really deep in this film but my mind kept wandering to what's in store for me at work in the morning.

If you love Hip Hop then you already know!

That's the sort of mic drop statement I was gonna write and bboy limp off into the sunset, but like a lot of these types of cultural milestones if you're timing is out it could completely pass you by. I was coming up in the late 80s and, although they were only released a couple years after, Breakin and it's follow up Breakin 2 Electric Boogaloo over shadowed Wild Style for…

This is pretty wack for the most part, but worth sticking with it because they packed all the funny in the back. I ain't gonna lie, that girl fight scene was fucking great. Interested in checking out the first one now.

Too long with not enough dialogue - Hanks killed it in his last scene though.
