Solid journey through the horrors of war once more, this time in a tank. The most surprising thing to me was Shia TheBeef didn't completely stink in this movie...apart from the on set reports that he didn't wash during the production that is...

I think we should get a kick starter going so Adam West's documentary can have a poster put up on Letterboxd.

Despite my love of 80s college movies I am pretty much stuck in the 90s. However, some how this film had totally passed me by. And thank fuck for that. Man, this is some bullshit right here. Singles may have spawned Friends, but it's more representative of that period than this sterile crap. Well, if you into grunge I guess...was this meant to be a spoof? There's a dog on the poster, weren't no dog in the film! Straight bullshit.

  • Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon 2013

    ★★★ Watched 25 Feb, 2015

Strangest dating video I've ever seen.

  • Blue Ruin 2013

Despite the main guy being rather incompetent at carrying out his revenge, he still does a much better job of it than I would. No way I'd have touched that arrow. That shit would be in there to stay. People would get used to it eventually. "How's the arrow today, Steve?" they would say as I limped around the office. "Plays up a bit when it's raining" would be my cheery reply. An arrow in the leg would clear my need for revenge right up. Doesn't stop your man here though, so fair play to him.

  • Predestination 2014

    ★★ Watched 22 Feb, 2015

It's a pretty safe bet that if you're on Letterboxd you are obsessed with film. You've watched countless movies, thousands I expect, many multiple times. There are loads you've probably forgot you've even seen. The Seven Basic Plots riffed on over and over and over again. You are one with narrative structure, you are a master of following the breadcrumb trail, once the dots are connected your mind snaps shut like a steel trap. Yet you continue to watch. On…

Oh my days, film did not fuck about. Proper good.

  • Frank 2014

    ★★★★ Watched 07 Feb, 2015

Great film about the power of music.

  • Boyhood 2014

    ★★★ Watched 06 Feb, 2015

This isn't the Boyz In The Hood reboot I was hoping for, but the timelaps technique was original enough to hold my attention through the running time and, despite not much actually happening, I thought it was alright. Hype is a motherfucker tho.

  • A Long Way Down 2014

    ★★★ Watched 25 Jan, 2015

I didn't mean to watch all of this, I just put it on Netflix while having a cuppa and eating a packet of Custard Cream biscuits. Mainly I was curious about Aaron Paul being in it. Its a pretty decent film to watch on a Sunday afternoon, kind of soothing. Sure, its not going to trouble Deep Impact for ultimate Sunday afternoon movie viewing, but it did keep me on the sofa long after the biscuits had run out. Definitely the best film I've seen where Pierce Brosnan plays a pedophile - presumably the reason this went straight to Netflix...

    Better than diamond rings...

  • Birdman 2014

    ★★★★ Watched 19 Jan, 2015

Direction and acting are both handled wonderfully, smudging the divide between theatre and cinema, mocking both worlds while celebrating their power. Birdman won me over pretty quickly and I was ready for something amazing to happen. Like, Fight Club or Brazil amazing, which admittedly is asking a hell of a lot, but it felt like it was coming, that this film could blow my mind. That utimately it didn't left me feeling a little unsatisfied, but I get that's more my failing than the film's. I certainly won't begrudge it getting all the awards this year.
