    Django Unchained 2012

    ★★★★ Watched 05 Jan, 2014 2

I'm not sure why I waited this long to see Django Unchained, for some reason it just didn't really appeal to me as much as Tarantino's other movies. (I've still not brought myself to watch Death Proof).

Jamie Foxx is Django, a man sold into slavery and freed by Dr King Schultz, (brilliantly played by Christoph Waltz), on the condition Django helps him bring in a bounty. Django shows a talent for the bounty hunting business, so they form a…

    Star Trek Into Darkness 2013

    ★★★★ Rewatched 04 Jan, 2014 1

JJ Abrams rebooted Star Trek universe continues in an extremely fast paced, fun and totally unsubtle 'homage' to The Wrath of Khan.

There are holes in the plot you could fly the Enterprise through but I really don't understand all of the hate this movie gets.

The production design is great, the Klingons looks menacing for the first time in a long time and Pope Dirk Benedict Cumberbatch is positively scenery chewing as 'John Harrison'. It's worth watching for his…

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

I've never seen a PA movie until this one. I thought I was watching another low rent Blair Witch rip off.

A couple of mates discover that a witch lived in the apartment below them and have a nose around her apartment (with the obligatory video camera). It turns out that young Jesse has been 'marked' by a local coven of witches for possession and to bring a demon into the world. I think.

Jesse begins to develop strange powers…

  • Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade 1989

    ★★★★ Rewatched 01 Jan, 2014 2

Indiana Jones teams up with his Dad (how fitting that James Bond is Indy's father) to take on the Nazi's, a scheming American and a mutual shag in a race to find the Holy Grail, the cup of Christ that caught Jesus's blood during the crucifixion. (if you believe that sort of thing)

After the darkness of Temple of Doom (Lucas & Spielberg were both going through seperations at the time and were both in really bad moods) Last Crusade captures…

Cinematic perfection. Top notch Saturday night entertainment.
Looks amazing on Blu-Ray. That is all.

    Sound City 2013

    ★★★★ Watched 10 Apr, 2013

A really enjoyable documentary about the legendary Sound City recording studio in L.A that spawned some of music's best and classic rock albums.

I'm probably slightly biased being a huge Foo Fighters fan but Dave Grohl directs really well and you can sense his passion for the subject matter. Featuring great behind the scenes footage and interviews with some of rock music's most interesting artists, this is a very interesting watch.

If you're not a fan of Grohl or rock music, avoid. If you are a fan, turn it up loud and enjoy.

  • A Fish Called Wanda

    A Fish Called Wanda 1988

    ★★★★ Rewatched 15 May, 2013

A most amusing British comedy, with great performances from the cast (Kevin Kline won an Oscar for his performance as Otto).

It has only dated slightly (it is 25 years old after all) and is great fun, with a lot of laughs.

"Khhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!" - Spock (Nowhere near as good as The Shat's in 1982)

Yeah, Dirk Benedict Cumberbatch is Khan. Let's get that out of the way.

Into Darkness has been pulled apart, moaned at and praised in equal measure. I saw it on opening night and I've left it a few weeks before writing my review as I wanted to take my time and think about it instead of writing a review as a knee jerk reaction.

'I'm just a man in can' - Tony Stark

After Iron Man 2 disappointed and The Avengers kicked it out of the park, what next for Robert Downey Jr and old shell head?

Happily, Shane Black delivered in spades for the third solo outing of Tony Stark a.k.a Iron Man. The film has humour and action aplenty.

Downey Jr is brilliant as ever as Stark, he has really made the role his own, I hope that he signs a new…

    Trading Places 1983

    ★★★★★ Rewatched 12 Apr, 2013

I love this movie, it is one of my favourite comedies. I have fond memories of watching it when I was a kid. I kept saying to my girlfriend that she should watch it with me. One night, she did.

One of her first comments was 'this movie is incredibly dated'. Looking at it with fresh eyes made me realise that it is a little dated. Some of the racist comments from the Duke brothers made me wince a little…
