The Dark Knight Rises 2012
SPOILER ALERT: THIS ISN'T THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST!
Bale's bat-voice seems to have gotten worse, Hardy has a tough time trying to act with his eyes and stature, Caine keeps crying and even Oldman just wasn't killing it as Gordon. Blake (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) was the only character with any real progression.
I enjoyed the experience overall but it was a predictable story bereft of emotion and just felt as if it was just rolling along without ever attempting to…

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey 2012
Extremely slow to get going and just as it does, it stops dead in Rivendell for a bit. From the mountain pass onwards, it was brilliantly paced, with some great action pieces and I enjoyed it constantly from there right through to the end.
I wasn't too bothered about 3D (I never am) and although there seemed to be some issues at times in 48FPS, Gollum looked absolutely amazing. The best CG I think I've ever seen on the big screen. That and Andy Serkis deserve at least two of these stars.

Prometheus 2012
In space, no-one can hear you weep at what could have been a great prequel.
There are just so many things wrong with this film and it just would just depress me too much to put them all in here.
What a waste...an absolute waste.

The Cabin in the Woods 2012
Just watched this through for the second time and it's still as enjoyable, even with the knowledge of the twists and turns.
I want to say so much but I don't want to have to click the 'Review contains spoilers' checkbox. Let me just say, it's a must-see for horror fans and of course fans of The Great Whedon.

The Hunger Games 2012
Unfortunately The Hunger Games is just far too long for its own good.
I'm glad that when the killing (finally) started it showed the brutality it needed to, but overall there were just too many lulls and by the end of it I didn't really care who lived or who died.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2012
Now THIS is how you do an origin story!
Despite having reservations about yet another reboot hitting the screen (when did originality die?) I was quite blown away by this and I'm so glad I caught it on the big screen. It felt like an adventure from start to finish and it wasn't scared to get dark when it was needed.
Sorry Raimi fans, but this is the shizzle!

The Perks of Being a Wallflower 2012
A great movie that helped remind me that I should venture out of my comfort zone when it comes to seeing new films.
Even with a darkness at the core of the story, it was great to see these characters develop and grow as the film goes on.
People mostly seemed to focus on Emma Watson when this was release, with it being one of her first post-Potter movies, but for me Logan Lerman stole the show with his portrayal of the fragile and broken Charlie.

The Raid: Redemption 2012
"Sweet Jesus!" I proclaimed throughout the majority of the movie, with my jaw constantly dropped.
This is how you knife fight, this is how you beat a man to death, this is how you do an action movie.
