Movie Club: A Crazy Experiment

So we all watch and love movies. Cool. We also love seeing what other people are watching and what they think about movies. Cool cool. Wouldn't it be interesting if a bunch of us all watched the same movie and had it fresh in our minds for when we log it into Letterboxd?

Here is my proposal:

We start off with a list that will be used as a nomination thread (this one). I don't want things to get too messy or out of control, so lets say you can either a) nominate a film that is not listed OR b) vote for a movie that has already been nominated. You can only vote once. As more movies get nominated and voted on, I'll keep the list ranked in order of what has the most votes.

This might have to be changed if no one is willing to vote for previously nominated movies, in which case we'll put a cap on the nominations and we'll vote separately.

After that process is done, I'll start a new list where the main discussion can take place and put the dates (I'm thinking a week) that the discussion applies to. Then We do it again, with a new theme, new nomination thread, etc.

So what do you think? I don't know if this will work, but it could be fun if we can work all the kinks out and get a solid process. Please post your suggestions if you have any ideas to help make this work, otherwise feel free to vote and nominate for movies you want everyone to watch.

Since there are so many films out there, lets go with the Spy Movie theme for this round (as it fits the movie I really want to watch that inspired this to begin with).

  • Hey all,

Our next movie going with the theme of Horror Comedies, is Tucker and Dale vs. Evil.

It is our first choice that has been on Netflix Instant, so hopefully it is a little bit more accessible for everyone. It is also on Amazon Instant if that is more your style, and available to rent on iTunes for 2.99 if you don't subscribe to either of those services.

I'll have the discussion list up on Monday, so I hope to see you then.

  • Hey all. Another week, another round.

The Tucker & Dale discussion can be found here.

The new nomination round, with the theme of Coen brothers, can be found here.

Hope to see you out there.

  • I forgot to do a last call for votes today, so I'll keep it up open until about midday tomorrow my time (GMT - 5). Please see the post above this for the link.

  • Well, its Monday so the new discussion is list is up everyone. Check it out if you can.

Also, here is the new nomination list. Trying something a little different this week and opening it up a little bit. I'd love hear some feedback.

  • Next week is Mike Leigh's Naked, so it should be a good one from what I've been reading. Its also available on Netflix Instant and should be on Hulu Plus because it has a Criterion release, but I have not checked that out yet to verify.

  • This weeks lists are up! Here is the link for the discussion on Naked.

Also, another nomination round is here as well! It seemed like the consensus was to keep the same, personal, tone again so I went with it once more.

  • What a great discussion last week. This week we'll try again. The Breathless discussion is finally up. The new nomination list is up as well.

I hope to see you all over there.
