Inglorious Basterds above Pulp Fiction? That's just crazy-talk.
i rated them both five stars, but when it comes down to the one that still has me on edge of my seat even though i've seen it a dozen times, it's inglourious basterds. pulp fiction wins on the "which one is a better film" but my director ranked lists are based on my personal favorites. so i agree, it might be crazy-talk, but i'm not afraid to be seen as crazy :)
actually for me the best Tarantino is 'Jackie Brown' hands down follow by Pulp and dogs, the rest just mush together like homages to his favorite directors and genres, but don't get me wrong I still enjoy his films, I just hope he goes back to do original material, he has the talent.
i don't know about you guys, but i'm super excited for django unchained!
@Simone I'm super excited for Django as well, but that goes for anything Tarantino.
oh, yeah I'am pretty excited too, I have my reservations with the guy but is undeniable that his work is entertaining as hell.
@Simone and that's a perfectly fair standard. @Noetic Hatter and I talk all the time about the difference between something being good and liking it. Lots of things are great but not that enjoyable (Citizen Kane, what?) and some are bad but more fun (Road House?). It's really two different scales.
Truth. And that's what makes it difficult to rate something with stars. If I love love love a movie, shouldn't I rate it highly? Even if it's technically weaker than others? Can't Buy Me Love, for instance, is one of my all time favorites. I could watch it another thousand times. But I know it's cliched and generally unspecial from a filmmaking standpoint. So how do I rate it?
Back on topic: Pulp Fiction is probably the most important movie QT ever made, and it's terrific. Depending on the the day -- and whether I had recently watched them -- I would likely go:
1. Jackie Brown
2. Pulp Fiction
3. Inglorious Basterds
4. Kill Bill 1
But they're all so close together that I could flip them on any other day.
@noetic hatter: what's funny about me with ranking lists where i enjoy all of them is that the last one i saw usually takes precedent in my mind over which one is my favorite. with tarantino i don't run into that as much because i rewatch them so many times :)
@danielm: i definitely rate based on how much i enjoyed it. if it's a stellar film (by any kind of "standard" people like to go by) then i usually enjoy it, just because it's a stellar film. so with my star ratings, take it as me enjoying the film or not enjoying it. i can't consider a film "good" unless i enjoyed it.
i added django unchained a close #3
for me...
1. Jackie
2. Dogs
3. pulp
4. Django
and the rest...
cool. i need to see jackie brown again, i haven't seen it in years.
