The Ides of March 2011 ★★★½

Not sure what to make of this. Gosling and Clooney and Hoffman are great, but the story itself feels empty. I think I'm spoiled by too much West Wing, and Sorkin et al's ability to cram so much into 45 mins of television. This felt like it came up short. Gosling's disillusionment was too obvious, his response so heavy-handed.
Compared with, say, Sam Seaborn's unravelling in similar circumstances in Somebody's Going to Emergency, Somebody's Going to Jail.

Immensely watchable film. Just didn't leave me anything to talk about with anyone afterwards.
