The Cook the Thief His Wife & Her Lover 1989 ★★★★★

I LOVED THIS. A bit of an odd choice for a Sunday morning, but still. I’ve only seen one other Peter Greenaway film, but I think you either love him or hate him. The visuals – so aesthetically pleasing. I want huge blown up images of the kitchen scenes on my walls. But it was not without substance – food, sex, pleasure, death, love, pain, disgust. Highly stylized. Not for the faint of heart. I felt so inspired and energized after watching this. Strangely, not long after I watched this, I saw another recent review – we saw the same film, noted the same elements, but felt completely opposite about them. To each their own.
