Really solid movie, incredible story. It was especially refreshing to see a different, more layered take on the “drunk abusive husband/father” trope, and Hugo Weaving does a great job portraying it.
This movie really nails home a sense of dread upon the first assault on the titular ridge, and I additionally appreciated the film’s angle on the generational cycle of young people volunteering for war via propaganda and idealism. Sits really well with All Quiet on the Western Front in that regard; something that film did very well.
