The Avengers 2012
This film was pretty much exactly what I expected, and as such, I really enjoyed it.
There was enough humour to suggest that they weren't taking themselves too seriously, yet it fit around the conflict well, rather than taking you out of the moment.
With a couple of odd exceptions, the CGI was really well done, and fit into the live action seamlessly.
It's definitely a movie I will watch again.

The Hunger Games 2012
Feels kind of like a YA oriented version of The Running Man - without the fancy electric suit.
-
Wreck-It Ralph 2012
The first 3D film I saw on my brand new 3D TV.
I liked the movie. The cross-overs between the old 8-bit games and modern 3D games was handled really well, and it was nice to see nods to some of the games I remember from my childhood (Q*bert!).
It's obvious this movie was never intended to be a 3D feature. The 3D component looks really good, and is handled well, with absolutely no instances of "3D for the sake of 3D", which even Avatar was guilty of in at least one instance.

Black Swan 2010
About half way through this I was bored, and ready to go to bed.
But holy crap! The second half of this movie completely blew me away, and literally drew me back from the bedroom door. Natalie Portman is absolutely fantastic, and completely deserved the multitude of awards she won for this role.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World 2010
What an utterly ridiculous movie. The weird comic book effects, the nonsensical storyline, the completely over-the-top "magic" effects and so on.
I loved it!
Michael Cera fit the role really well, though it certainly matched the "young and awkward" stereo-type he's fallen into. The choreographed fight scenes were very well done, and the crazy visual effects fit the action really well.
If you value a story, this is definitely not the movie for you. But if you want a film that requires very little thought, incorporates some nice action sequences and has really quite impressive visual effects, I would heartily recommend it.

Thor 2011
I wasn't expecting a masterpiece coming into this movie, so I quite enjoyed it. The story wasn't great, but it was far from terrible, and the special effects were, with one exception, well done.
The sudden-but-inevitable betrayal was handled well, and it's always nice to see an interesting interpretation of any religion (hats off Stargate for winning that one so far).
I am interested in seeing how the characters from this film are tied back into the Avengers movie.

Shaun of the Dead 2004
Halloween movie on TV. Entertaining flick, thankfully not requiring much thought.

Captain America: The First Avenger 2011
Again, I wasn't expecting much as a lot of people have shot this one down, but I actually quite enjoyed Captain America.
Marks lost on the appearance of Darth Michael Jackson.
The main issue with most of the more recent superhero films is that they try to fit too much back story into a short amount of time, making the movie feel rushed when the actual story is compressed as a result.
The issue with the Avenger movies is that…
-
Rise of the Planet of the Apes 2011
That's one expressive ape!
Doesn't really fit with either of the other movies though.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 2011
Best of the series for sure, this is a great wrap-up. The deviations from the book are handled well.
